Yin Qiao-Echinacea Plus
Yin Qiao-Echinacea Plus Formula combines a highly-concentrated form of the classical Chinese formula Yin Qiao Jie Du Tang together with the properties of Echinacea.
Yin Qiao San is one of the first formulas students of Chinese herbal medicine encounter. They learn its indications of releasing the exterior and clearing Wind-Heat and that it also treats interior Heat-Toxins. When taken at the first sign of a cold, it is remarkably effective. Most health food stores now stock a version of this product, and many Americans have become comfortable with learning how to use it effectively. Echinacea is one of the best-selling herbs in the US, where it is native. It is estimated that yearly sales exceed 200 million dollars and represent almost 10% of total herbal product sales. When one considers how many different herbs are available, it is extraordinary that one herb could capture almost 10% of all sales! It must be that this herb offers something special, and that does turn out to be the case. A variety of Echinacea species are grown and have all been used traditionally.
A number of bioactive constituents have been identified in Echinacea, but there is still no scientific consensus on which compounds are most important in explaining the healing virtue of the plant. As a result of this lack of consensus People’s Herbs uses a whole plant extract of Echinacea purpurea, so that all plant compounds are captured. In Germany, where a good deal of Echinacea is grown, and where herbal medicine is more integrated into biomedicine than is the case in North America, Echinacea products are approved for use in cases of upper respiratory infection, common colds, urinary tract infections, and slow healing wounds. As a result German medical doctors commonly prescribe various preparations of this plant.
Echinacea is native to the mid-western prairies of North America and if one traces back its history, one discovers it was used for a wide variety of indications. Native American tribes used it for snakebite as well as other conditions. One could infer from this that Echinacea, like Yin Qiao San, has Heat-Toxin fighting properties. Early American pioneers learned to use Echinacea preparations for a great many diseases. This striking plant that now graces many American gardens was in the understanding of the pioneer medicine of the day a potent “blood purifier.”
This category of herbs does not have an immediate counterpart in Chinese medicine, but there would be some overlap with the category we call “Clear Heat-Toxins.” What happens when Yin Qiao San and Echinacea are combined? The result is a product, offering proven performers from North America and China, that extends the treatment window of Yin Qiao San, and this is important. Yin Qiao San, to be effective, needs to be taken early in the disease process. It is best employed with the initial subtle signs that an illness is trying to become established.
When Echinacea is added to Yin Qiao San, the result is a formula that no longer is useful only in the earliest stages of an illness. This new, improved version of Yin Qiao San can be taken well past the time when the original Yin Qiao San would be indicated. We can say it is now indicated for acute and sub-acute stages of the common cold or upper respiratory infections. Because this product performs best when employed at the earliest signs of an upper respiratory infection we advise practitioners to keep an ample stock on hand, particularly in the cold and flu season. The two days you might wait for a shipment to arrive are crucial in nipping infections in the bud. You do your patients a favor in this same vein Blue Poppy People's Herbs
